If you don’t know, I have decided not to do monthly TBRs anymore. I never follow them and I came up with the idea to create my Top Ten TBR. This is the link to my YouTube channel and you can watch my video explaining TTTbr and my first list that I made for it.
Now that that’s out of the way, I am making this TBR because I am participating in two readathons at the end of October: Sbooktober and the Witchathon! I have chosen a few books to read for both readathons since a few days overlap. This just makes it easier for me!
Sbooktober is hosted by five booktubers and I will link them here: Reggie (Don’t Stop Readin’), Vanessa (Paper Faerie), Chelsea (Chelsea Palmer), Zarriah (ZarriahRose), and Derby (Derby_Lane Reading). Each host has a clan and there are two challenges for each clan, along with five more prompts for everybody.
Join Sbooktober! Read a Halloween themed book of your choice (thriller, supernatural, gothic, etc.).
For this prompt I’ll be reading My Plain Jane by the Lady Janies: Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows.
Clan Up! Pick a clan and read a book featuring your mascot.
I chose to be a part of the Corpse Brides, host Zarriah’s clan. The book I chose that features a bride is The Waitress by Melissa Nathan. I don’t know whether the MC gets married, but she does attend an engagement party for her friend in the beginning of the novel. Maybe the friend gets married at some point during the book?
Enter the Haunted House! Read a book that includes a haunted house.
I am using My Plain Jane for this one as well. I think that Thornfield Hall is haunted in this retelling of Jane Eyre, but I’m not positive.
Perform an Incantation! Read a poetry or short story collection.
I only have one poetry collection. It’s the princess saves herself in this one by Amanda Lovelace.
Face Your Fears! Read a book based on something you are, or have been, afraid of.
As of right now, I can’t think of any books that fit this prompt. I will either skip it or, if one of the books I read applies, use one of the mentioned books for this prompt.
This readathon has clans, and those clans have two challenges that go with them. Since I chose to be part of the Corpse Bride Clan, my challenges are:
Undead Matrimony: read a book you know you will love forever.
For this, I’ll be using My Plain Jane again. I tend to really love retellings, and I’ve heard only good things about the books written by the Lady Janies.
Say Yes to the Dress: read a book with a dress on the cover.
The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill has the girl on the cover. They’re either wearing a cloak or a dress, but I can’t tell since it’s from the back. I’m using it.
This time of year is all about preparing for the dark and gathering enough harvest for winter. Read a book that is bound to make you warm and happy.
For this prompt, I’ll be reading The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang. I have only heard good things about this book and the romance it features.
Light a candle for your ancestors and read by candlelight. This is a time for honoring our kin.
For this, I’ll pick a book from my TBR to read by candlelight.
Samhain is more widely known as Halloween. Read a spooky horror/thriller novel.
I’ll be reading Shutter Island by Dennis LeHane. This is the only spooky horror/thriller book that I own, so I don’t know how I’ll like it.
The veil between worlds is thinnest. Read a book that has paranormal elements.
I am going to be reading My Plain Jane by the Lady Janies. These two readathons overlap for a few days, so I’ll be using a few books for both.
In honor of your ancestors, read a book that features your ethnic heritage.
Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore features LatinX characters, which works for me.
Every witch needs their coven! Buddy read a book.
I’ll be buddy reading Wild Beauty with two people for this readathon. It’s my first buddy read, so I’m excited!
Read the group book.
The group book that Rhiannon chose is The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill. (I’ll be using this for one of the prompts for the Sbooktober Readathon as well.)
I am so excited about both of these readathons! I love readathons because it always pushes me to read more. I hope to read a lot of the books on my Top Ten TBR, which was why I chose many of them for the prompts.
